After Scott Gurthie’s big announcement during the Build 2016 conference, the CTO of Xamarin Inc. Miguel de Icaza acknowledges in the official Xamarin blog this fact: now Xamarin SDK for Android, iOS and Mac OS is to be open source with the code available from GitHub repositories. And not only the code but also the tools like Runtime, libraries, command-line, and Xamarin.Forms.

This is the logical stage of the Xamarin’s evolution. After Microsoft purchased Xamarin earlier this year, the company not only made it free to use for all developers but also included a special extension to all Visual Studio packages.

With these changes, Microsoft intends Xamarin to become an all-purpose development platform surrounded by a strong community. With Xamarin’s help, C# developers could use the .NET ecosystem to develop any type of mobile apps and deliver native app experience.
