Project challenges
-
Tech vendor underperformance. The client sought a software development partner with extended resources. The previous vendor provided limited capabilities in adding required specialists, thus, affecting project timeline.Workflow adjustment. The IT Craft team needed to harmonize its workflow with the client’s. It also needed to help the client dive into the basics of IT project management to ensure effective, direct communication on both sides.
-
Software modernization. The software was based on a legacy framework, hiding the risks of difficult project expansion or possible project derailment. The team needed to evaluate an alternative framework and design a transition path to provide a cost-effective solution since Silex became end-of-life in 2018.
“Prompt communication is key to successful staff augmentation. Constant, direct touch with the client team eliminated churn and enabled everyone to join efforts effectively.”

Main Steps
-
Initial Request
A request arrived for two developers for an already-existing project with experience in PHP, MySQL, and Silex.
IT Craft provided CVs of candidates with the requested background in one day. We also offered to add a PM to simplify development coordination.
-
Discussion
The client conducted a one-hour interview with developers and PM. He shared source code with the team, which it reviewed.
The team proved its skills and experience. The cooperation commenced.
-
Project Kickoff
Software developers started working on the first tasks less than two weeks after the initial request.
-
Cooperation Expansion
After a month of cooperation in 2017, the client asked to add an HTML coder to the project.
In 2018, a Business Analyst and a QA joined the team.
At the beginning of 2019, the team included three developers, one HTML coder, one QA, and one PM to balance the scope surge.
The client’s translation department was integrated into the acquiring company’s processes.
Project participants decided to reduce the team to two developers, a part-time HTML coder, one QA, and one PM to balance scope since the essential project goals were achieved by the end of 2019.
-
Development workflow
As the product owner, the client focused on the backlog, which he managed with the team’s assistance. Apart from daily calls, the team had a weekly call dedicated specifically to backlog review.
The PM on IT Craft’s side helped structure processes and communication, thus, speeding task completion.
The team worked in two-week Sprints, each ending with a retrospective. Developers released new increments after the latest functionality was ready and tested. This ensured the best quality of the source code.
-
Project switch
Cooperation continued after the project was acquired in 2020. Evaluating the high quality of provided services, the client continued collaboration and transferred the available team to another product.
