While iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus has received most of the attention during Apple’s latest presentation, we are happy to share some great news about the success of one of our old customers, ViewRanger, the walking route planner.
Hannah Catmur, ViewRanger’s Head of Design, presented a brand-new hiking app developed specially for Apple Watch Series 2. The app uses the GPS module the Apple Watch has onboard to:
- determine the exact position on the route, time and distance remained
- display real-time, turn-by-turn directions
- show tips and interesting facts
- calculate and present statistics on user activity
Also, users receive tap alerts (not just push notificaitons), e.g., when they approach interesting views or need to make a turn. Noteworthy is there is no need to take the smartphone out each time to check.
And, ViewRanger doesn’t stop there! They are also entering the AR arena:
This new watch app is the latest in a line of innovations that ViewRanger has brought to the outdoors market – and we’re not finished yet. Our team in Cambridge is currently completing our breakthrough augmented reality technology that will allow people to explore the world like never before.
Craig Wareham, ViewRanger co-founder and CEO
The Apple Watch 2 will be available for preorder starting September 9, and for sale from September 16.
ITCraft was the original developer of ViewRanger, so it is an honor and a thrill for us to watch the success of their fantastic app and their innovative ideas turn into new services.
